IYF C2C Kirtan Mela – Shahdara

IYF C2C Kirtan Mela – Shahdara

Just like the spiritual master awakens the dormant love in the hearts of the devotees, similarly, He awakens the love for Krishna in their living by installing life into deities.

Another such life changing event occurred on the 26th January’18 where Sri Sri Nitai- Nadia Vihari were welcomed into hearts and lives of many, by the mercy of Srila Gurudev

IYF C2C under the guidance of HH Kratu Das ji Maharaj got the oportunity to  perform the all auspicious continuous 9 hour Harinaam Kirtan for the welcome and the pleasure of the Lord’s. The preparations started weeks ago where all volunteers enthusiastically came together to welcome their lordships in the most magnificient and spectacular way. All devotees got to witness the most beautiful abhishek of Sri Sri Nitai Nadia Vihari, along with the blissful chanting and hyms of “Govindam adi purusam”. Devotees were served with sumptuous prasadam for the whole day, as the kirtan hall kept receiving more and more participants for inviting Sri Harinaam Prabhu with their melodious and soulful kirtanas

The day ended with lots and lots of dancing, where Srila Gurudev himself brought all devotees together to dance for the pleasure of the lord.

Sri Sri Nitai-Nadia Vihari ki jai!

Yuga dharma harinaam kirtan ki jai!

Why and how to perform the Shradh Ceremony?

Why and how to perform the Shradh Ceremony?

In Srimad Bhagvatam, it is mentioned that
“Devarṣi-bhūtāpta-nṛṇāṁ pitṝṇāṁ
na kiṅkaro nāyam ṛṇī ca rājan
sarvātmanā yaḥ śaraṇaṁ śaraṇyaṁ
gato mukundaṁ parihṛtya kartam” (SB 11.5.41)
Every human being is obliged and has an obligation? We are under whose obligation? Demigods – Sun God, He gives us heat and light; moon nourishes our eatables and like that Indra, Chandra, Surya, Brihaspati, they all are demigods and are supplying. They are supplying and they don’t send bill for what they are supplying so we are indebted to them.
We are obliged to cow and ox. Ox is tilting the ground and cow is giving us milk, butter, butter milk, ghee, etc. Mother Cow is nurturing us so we are under obligation to cow and ox.
We are indebted to our forefathers also. Why? because they not only brought us to this human form of life which is very rare and valuable but also nourished us, nurtured us. They provided us food, clothing and education so we are indebted to them.
Those who are cent percent surrendered and are serving Krishna, they are not under any obligation of “devarṣi-bhūtāpta-nṛṇāṁ pitṝṇāṁ na kiṅkaro nāyam ṛṇī ca rājan”. Why? Because they are surrendered and are serving Krishna. “Sarvātmanā”, the king is dependent on Krishna, demigods are dependent on Krishna and everybody else. Just by supplying food to the stomach, we automatically nourish our hands, nose, ear, whole body so simultaneously, serving Krishna, “sarvātmanā yaḥ śaraṇaṁ śaraṇyaṁ”, by surrendering to Krishna we pay up our debt.
Why perform Shradh Ceremony?
So that we can relieve our ancestors from the hellish conditions, suffering condition.
If we are not cent percent surrendered to Krishna then we must perform Shradh. Lord Ramchandra did, he performed for Dashrath Maharaj, pinda daan. There was no question of Dashrath Maharaj going to hellish conditions because Lord Ramchandra was his direct son. It is the greatest fortune to have Krishna as your son, God as your son, Dashrath Maharaj will never suffer from hellish conditions, go to hell, even then Lord Ramchandra performed shradh. Lord Chaitanya is God himself, he also went to Gaya to perform Shradh Ceremony for his departed father, Jagannath Misra. So if we are not cent percent surrendered then we must perform Shradh Ceremony to pay up our debt to our forefathers, to relieve them from their hellish conditions.
How to perform Shradh?
It is stated in Srimad Bhagvatam that one must call pure brahman and perform the ceremony. One must cook sumptuous, beautiful, tasty, rich prasadam and that one has to offer to Lord Vishnu. This is written in Srimad Bhagvatam that first one must offer it Krishna, Vishnu, Ram, Narayan, Laxman and then one must offer to the Brahmans. When Advaita Acharya performed Shradh Ceremony of his father, first, he offered to a vaishnava, not even brahmans and Srila Haridasa Thakur was the most exalted vaishnava present there; He was a Muslim, he was not within varnashrama even, not even a brahman but a pure vaishnava. After offering to the Lord, one must offer to the vaishnavas, then one must offer to brahmans and then to one’s relatives, after that one is supposed to offer to people in general, beggars and after everything is over, one is supposed to honour that prasadam and give dakshina to brahmans, vaishnavas, the best donation is to vaishnavas. One should do it with faith and that will relieve one’s ancestors from the pangs of maya, suffering.
Should we ever correct a Vaishnava ?

Should we ever correct a Vaishnava ?

We can only correct a Vaishnava,  if he is surrendered to us, otherwise, we may incur a Vaishnava Aparadha or we may get into a Vaisanava Aparadha.

The line is if he is surrendered, if he is ready to listen to us, ready to obey us.

‘Tad viddhi praṇipātena paripraśnena sevayā’
 BG 4.34

First is ‘praṇipātena’, Is he surrendered to us?  Is he going to listen to us? If not, then leave it to his Guru, to his superior and to his Krishna, Maya and everybody else.

Everybody has a different level. If we are on the same level or if somebody is surrendered to us, then we can instruct him, he will hear, he will listen and there would not be any aparadha but if he is not going to listen to us and if he is thinking that he is above us (he may/may not be), equal to us and we try to instruct him, then Vaishnava Aparadha may happen. Also because he is dear to Krishna, if he is a devotee and we are also dear to Krishna and both of us start fighting, then Krishna will never like it, Krishna doesn’t appreciate this.

If someone is ready to listen that means he is surrendered to us and we can instruct him but if he is not surrendered and doesn’t want to listen to us, then we should not get into any offence. Read More Teachings

Power of Co-Operation

Power of Co-Operation

Cooperation means we should cooperate with each other to achieve something. So, what is that we want to achieve? Very obvious, that we want to achieve Krsna, His love.
In order to do that we need cooperation because
“Sampradaya-vihina ye mantras
te nisphala matah”

Without joining ourselves into sampradaya, we cannot attain Krsna. We can attain but it is surely very difficult but when we join sampradaya, then it becomes so much easier because we get help from every angle. Sampradaya means there has to be 1 leader, 1 Guru, 1 Sanstha ke acharya, 1 personality of all these designations and that is Prabhupada. So in order to achieve our topmost goal, we have to cooperate.

It is not who is right or who is wrong, the principle of cooperation stays above who is right and who is wrong. One can cooperate according to his level of Krsna Consciousness, the more elevated a devotee, the more cooperation we can expect from him because he can understand things better.

Fighting means neophyte stage, fighting most likely happens in a neophyte stage.
So higher the level of Krsna Consciousness, the better we can cooperate with one another. Variety is the mother of enjoyment, variegatedness, but that variegatedness should be meant for pleasing devotees and Krishna. Otherwise it becomes difference of opinions and fighting. Common is Krishna.

“Mac – citta mad-gata-prāṇā
bodhayantaḥ parasparam
kathayantaś ca māṁ nityaṁ
tuṣyanti ca ramanti ca”

This particular sloka explains how devotees can cooperate with one another. Common is
“mac-cittā”, that their consciousness dwell in Krsna and that is common.
Common denominator has to be there in order to cooperate. When their consciousness dwell in Krsna, then it is very easy to cooperate with one another. Differences definitely will be there but differences should not make us become envious, develop ill feelings or fighting, we can respect differences. If one wants to do book distribution and another one wants to do congregational preaching or whatsoever, it should all be geared up to please Krsna. So we have to see that difference, unity in diversity and diversity in unity, we have to see. We have seen

jaya sri-krishna-chaitanya prabhu nityananda
sri-adwaita gadadhara shrivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrinda.

Lord Chaitanya is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He can do all the tricks, everything is within His power but

“udilo aruṇa pūraba-bhāge,
dwija-maṇi gorā amani jāge,
bhakata-samūha loiyā sāthe,
gelā nagara-brāje”
“tāthaī tāthaī bājalo khol,”

He took his whole army, he could do all by Himself. He did it by himself in Jarkhinda Jungle and South India but He didn’t relish mellow much longer.

“bhakata-samūha loiyā sāthe”

All devotees, entourage and one of the topmost quality of Krsna is that He is always surrounded by His devotees.
Krsna can enjoy by himself to full extent but that’s not the idea.
Along with His devotees.

“Aradhyo bhagavan vrajesa-tanayas
tad-dhama vrndavanam ramya kacid upasana
vraja-vadhu-vargena va kalpita”

Krsna along with devotees, Vrindavan and topmost worshippers are gopis and gopis have 2 camps, right wing and left wing but at the time of distress, they all become one. When in the rasa dance they recited Gopi Geet there were no different parties. Same gopis were in distress and they became one, “ Where is our Lord? Where is our beloved? ” and they were all lovingly, cooperatively searching for the Lord and that is cooperation in common denominator.

Same thing with Shat Goswamis , Rupa Goswami could do by himself, Sanatana Goswami could also do by himself but what to talk about Jiva Goswami and other Goswamis. These Shat Goswamis, not just 6 but Lokanath Goswami and so many others, Bhugarbha Goswami. Lord Chaitanya had a whole army, whole army was so tuned to Lord Chaitanya that their differences mitigated by looking at Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and this is unity.

So we have seen in ISKCON, upper level GBC, Gurus have so much cooperation, love, affection and so much serving each other. This is very much essential in the age of Kali-Kalah. In the age of Kali , shakti is only in unity, only in cooperation.

Prabhupada gives a very nice example about the sticks. Individual stick we can break very easily but the whole bundle becomes powerful. Every individual stick becomes powerful because of cooperation but individual stick can break very easily.
So there is a potency, Shakti, strength in unity and that’s what we are trying to achieve. There was a GBC slogan in ISKCON Leadership Sanga in Mayapur that all morning Bhagavatam lectures were geared up towards this point, unity in diversity. So we can unite with the common denominator, that is Krsna and Prabhupada and we can give up our differences for a higher cause and higher cause is that “I want to attain the love of Krsna; I want to please Prabhupada”.

If you fight at lower level or whatever level, then how Prabhupada would be pleased?
“Your love will be tested by how much you cooperate. Love, Trust and Cooperation after I leave this planet.” A very good statement. We want to please Prabhupada and Krsna, there has to be good love, trust and cooperation amongst his followers, very very essential.

Prabhupada says, “If ISKCON will break or finish then it has to be from within; without, nobody can move ISKCON.”
“Ghar foote ghar jaaye.” If house is broken then whole house will be on fire but house is within the house, if everybody has love, trust and cooperation then the house will remain intact. So family that worships together, stays together and if we are worshipping, loving together, it will automatically stay together. This is the principle, “Purity is the force.” The more pure we become, the more love, trust and cooperation we can achieve, that is we can see on higher level in ISKCON that there is so much love, trust and cooperation without any ill feelings, without any differences, without any mine and yours. This is to a certain extent achieved already. Now, we have to take it to the level downwards and it will come, it will come.
Love, trust, Cooperation ki Jai!!!
