First Step Towards Advancement..

First Step Towards Advancement..

Preparing for initiation means taking spiritual life seriously and when one is convinced that this material world has nothing to offer, it is just for the body. Material world is going to offer everything for the body but not for the soul.

Then what about the soul ? That is preparing for initiation- “I want to do something for myself. What is that something that I want to do for myself ? That I want to advance in my spiritual life.”

Srila Prabhupada says that if we want to learn carpentry, how do we learn? By working under a good carpenter. How can we become a doctor? By working under a doctor and reading the medical books available. Similarly, if we want to do something for ourselves, if we want to become spiritually advanced, then we need a Spiritual Master who can teach us how to advance in our spiritual life.

What are our shortcomings? How can we go in the right direction ? A Spiritual Master can put us on track again and having a Spiritual Master means having a well wisher, our guardian, who serves his disciples. A Guru, helps us, holds our hand and brings us to Krishna. So preparing for initiation means taking help from the Spiritual Master to advance in the spiritual life.

Srila Rupa Goswami in Sadhna Bhakti, says that

“Aadau Guru Padashraya”

Aadau means right in the beginning, we have to find a proper Guru and take shelter of him.

“Aadau Guru Padashraya  Krsna dikshaadi”, then Krishna Diksha, Diksha into Krishna Consciousness. Then “Vishrambhena Guru sewa”, serving our Guru, without any doubt.

Preparing for initiation means that we have to fix the teacher then we can advance. The following things we to follow, 4 regulative principles, 16 rounds and studying the recommended Vedic Literature, few books and prepare ourselves.

We have to accept “Vartamana Pad-Pradakshika Guru”, Siksha Guru, Diksha Guru, Chautha Guru, Guru means many Gurus so it is not that Diksha Guru is all in all, there are many other ways Guru comes to us and topmost Guru is Krsna, Chaitya Guru.

“Krsnam Vande Jagat Guru”. Krishna is the topmost Guru. So this is preparing for initiation.

Krishna Conscious without Initiation

Krishna Conscious without Initiation

Is it possible to become Krishna Conscious without Initiation?

Yes, it is possible to become Krishna Conscious without Initiation, but initiation means help. If you don’t know your way then you may go to a different track and maybe you get lost but initiation means you get a help. One who is experienced, he is going to hold your hand and write a contract that if you follow me then I’ll take you back home, back to Godhead.

So, initiation means you get trained by those who got trained up by their masters. Initiation means having relationship with the spiritual master and that way you can become Krishna Conscious or otherwise, you can read Bhagavatam or follow other many ways by which you can become Krishna Conscious also. But, if you want to go back to home, back to godhead, then there is no question of going there without initiation because Krishna says,

Na me bhakta janah partha na me bhakta achye janah mad bhaktanaam cha bhakta teme bhakta tamo matah.

A devotee of my devotee is my true devotee but one who says I’m a devotee of Krishna is not my devotee. Krishna has organized His devotees in lineage, in disciplic succession.

Sampradaya vihina ye mantras te nishphala mataah, without the sampradaya and guru in sampradaya, the mantra becomes nishphala and doesn’t give any fruit.

Hare Krsna mantra is different, you don’t need a guru but if you have a guru, it is a help. Guru is serving you to go back to home, back to godhead. He is holding your hand, protecting you, he is checking you, he is keeping you on track all the time. Guru is like a transparent via media, glasses. So, without glasses, you see everything blurry but when you put glasses, everything is manifested crystal clear. Guru is ‘Krishna Kripa Murti’, Guru is the mercy incarnation of Krishna, Guru can bestow mercy of Krishna and Krishna to us. Guru makes our life easy in spiritual Life.

If an ant wants to go to different pilgrimages in India from top to bottom, from Jagannath puri to Dwarka, it is very difficult for the ant to just go around India but if it sits down in a sadhu or Guru’s bag who is going to these pilgrimages, sits down in his bag of begging bowl, then everything is in it, eating, sleeping, walking, seeing- everything is included so, it becomes so easy. Just like it is “samsara dava nala lidha loka tranaaya karunya ghana ghanatvam praptasya kalyaan gunarnuvasya vande guru sri chranarvaindam”, Guru is receiving cloud of benediction from Krishna and pouring it on us, we are not putting any efforts, it is just causeless mercy why not take it? This is the help.

Of course, you have to pick and choose your Guru that you’re enlivened by Him and your heart is matching with His heart’s frequency and He’s tuned into love of Krishna and he is practicing. We have to see all these qualities of a Guru and then we can choose.

So, you can become Krishna Conscious but for Krishna to accept you, you need connection because many places he says ‘aacaaryam maam vijaaniyaan maavanmanyeta karhicit na martya buddhyaasuuyeta sarva-deva-mayo guruh’. That, I’m the acarya, acarya is my representative and you can come to me through him and that’s the easiest way. It is up to you to get easy mercy, easy help, easy everything or else you go a little hard way, it is up to you. Holy name can bestow you Love of Krishna if you chant without offences, without Guru. But, if you get some help, someone can make things easy for you, why not?

Initiation – 2015

When a person with his/her full heart, desires to attain Krishna, then Krishna bestows His mercy upon him in the form of ‘Guru’.

So, a Spiritual Master is a living entity’s most heartfelt desire. It happens when an entity actually comes to the position of ‘trinad api sunichena’, when he realises that I am more lowly than a straw in the street, and I need someone to take my boat across, ‘plavam sukalpam guru karna dharan’, then only the motive of this rare human form of life is fulfilled.

This year 65 such desirous devotees took initiation from HH Kratu Maharaj including one devotee who took her second Brahminical initiation. This auspicious event was held in the most Holy Dham Sri Vrindavan in the presence of Sri Sri Radha Shyamsunder, Krishna Balram and Lord Sri Chaitanya Nitai.

The event started unfolding a day before where HH Kratu Maharaj organised the first Braj tour of IYF-C2C and all the opportune initiates also collected the mercy. Everyone visited the Six prominent Goswami temples of Vrindavan along with Mansarover. The evening was almost like a celebration at HH Kratu Maharaj’s ashram where devotees thronged from all the parts to witness the occasion. It was very warm to see some devotees making garlands in one corner, some cooking prasadam for the devotees, some serving HH Kratu Maharaj and some peforming kirtan and dancing in ecstasy.

The following day, which happened to be the biggest day of many of the devotees lives started their day by attending Mangla Arati in ISKCON SriSri Krishna Balaram Temple followed by an elaborate three hour long seminar on ISKCON’s philosophy sharing on the to-be initiates. It was a very interactive session with attractive presentations and constant Questions Answers by HH Kratu Maharaj.

Finally, the initiates were taken to the temple to sit in front of the Holy Fire and take their ultimate and eternal vows. These vows primarily comprised of Srila Prabhupada’s benedictions in the form of the four regulative principles.

Scriptures tell us that at the time of the yagya of initiation, all the previous karmas of initiates, good or bad, become void. Hence, each soul takes a new birth. And Spiritual Master bestows His mercy upon these young souls and gives them new Spiritual names and a new way to lead their lives altogether. Not only is the soul null of any Karmas and is a new born, this new born also gets associated to the new family of Krishna, the Brahma-Gaudiya Vaishnava Sampradaya.

The grand event wrapped up with a grand feast in the Krishna hall of the temple.
