First Step Towards Advancement..

Preparing for initiation means taking spiritual life seriously and when one is convinced that this material world has nothing to offer, it is just for the body. Material world is going to offer everything for the body but not for the soul.

Then what about the soul ? That is preparing for initiation- “I want to do something for myself. What is that something that I want to do for myself ? That I want to advance in my spiritual life.”

Srila Prabhupada says that if we want to learn carpentry, how do we learn? By working under a good carpenter. How can we become a doctor? By working under a doctor and reading the medical books available. Similarly, if we want to do something for ourselves, if we want to become spiritually advanced, then we need a Spiritual Master who can teach us how to advance in our spiritual life.

What are our shortcomings? How can we go in the right direction ? A Spiritual Master can put us on track again and having a Spiritual Master means having a well wisher, our guardian, who serves his disciples. A Guru, helps us, holds our hand and brings us to Krishna. So preparing for initiation means taking help from the Spiritual Master to advance in the spiritual life.

Srila Rupa Goswami in Sadhna Bhakti, says that

“Aadau Guru Padashraya”

Aadau means right in the beginning, we have to find a proper Guru and take shelter of him.

“Aadau Guru Padashraya  Krsna dikshaadi”, then Krishna Diksha, Diksha into Krishna Consciousness. Then “Vishrambhena Guru sewa”, serving our Guru, without any doubt.

Preparing for initiation means that we have to fix the teacher then we can advance. The following things we to follow, 4 regulative principles, 16 rounds and studying the recommended Vedic Literature, few books and prepare ourselves.

We have to accept “Vartamana Pad-Pradakshika Guru”, Siksha Guru, Diksha Guru, Chautha Guru, Guru means many Gurus so it is not that Diksha Guru is all in all, there are many other ways Guru comes to us and topmost Guru is Krsna, Chaitya Guru.

“Krsnam Vande Jagat Guru”. Krishna is the topmost Guru. So this is preparing for initiation.

So best way is to think that “I am not this material body and that I am spirit soul and me, spirit soul, wants to serve Krishna. ”
So diffuse your false ego, that diffusion is into “Jiwera Swaroop Hoye Krsnera Nitya Dasa”. That I am an insignificant, small ,little living entity who is part and parcel of Krishna. And because I am part and parcel of Krishna, it is my eternal dharma, duty to serve Him.
If we always think ourself as an eternal servant of Krishna, then there is no false ego. Anything and everything you have, you connect it back to Krishna, then there is no question of false ego.

Srila Prabhuapada says that whatever we create, it is meant for our happiness and  pleasure. We create money, it is meant for our pleasure. We create house, meant for our pleasure.
Similarly, Krishna created everything, animate and inanimate, it belongs to Krishna because it is created by Him and all the things are meant to give Him pleasure because it is created by Him. So everything, including us and including ours.
Krishna is Janmady asya yatah, He has created everything.
Why has He created everything? For His pleasure. Just like we create anything, meant for our pleasure. Then why not whatever He has created, is meant for His pleasure?
So everything, me and mine, is meant for Krishna’s pleasure. No question of pride.
False ego, pride means that I have something and I am proud of my penny but I have no penny, it doesn’t belong to me.
Any penny doesn’t belong to me.
So if we transform mine into His and I also belong to Him and I meant to serve Him, I meant to give Him pleasure. And whatever I have separated from Him and made it mine, also I use that back into His service. No question of pride.
Everything is diffused, it is His, anything, but we make it mine. We also belong to Him because He created us.
So when we transcend our consciousness from mine to His, pride is gone. No pride.
” Trinadapi Suneechena , Tarorapi Sahishnuna, Amanina Manadena Kirtaniyah Sada Hari”. You become more tolerant than a tree and think oneself more lower than straw in a street and always ready to give respect to others and never expect any kind of respect for ourselves.
Under such a humble state of mind, if one can chant the Holyname constantly, then that diffuses our false ego. No false ego.
Rupa Sanatan Goswami would have any false ego, it is inconsiderable because they were meek and humble and everything for the Lord, everything, every second is for the Lord. Everything that they possessed is for the Lord, though they didn’t possess much, but still mind, body, words, belonged to Krishna, they consigned that to Krishna. So no question of pride. This is super consciousness, topmost consciousness.

Bhaktivinoda Thakura describes 6 kinds of surrender, he says –

“anukulyasya sankalpah pratikulyasya vajranam
raksisyatiti visvaso goptrtve varanam tatha
atma-niksepa – karpanye sad-vidha saranagati. ”

There are 6 kinds of saranagati. “anukulyasya sankalpah”, whatever is favourable to Krishna and to execute Krishna Consciousness, we must accept that immediately.
In order to stretch this saranagati, the second word he is saying is just the opposite, “pratikulyasya varjanam”.
“pratikulyasya varjanam”, means which is not favourable. “Pratikul”, to execute Krishna Consciousness, to render service to Krishna or a devotee. Whatever is “pratikul”, whatever is not conducive for spiritual life and spiritual subject matter, we must give that up immediately.
So this in itself is a very very high level of surrender to Krishna.
Just imagine a husband and a wife, if wife gives up everything that husband doesn’t like and wife accepts everything or does everything that husband likes. Imagine how elevated that couple will become.
On the contrary, if wife does exactly the opposite of what husband wants and wife doesn’t accept everything that husband likes and rejects everything that he likes.
Same thing with husband, he doesn’t do, what wife likes and does what wife doesn’t like. What kind of surrender it is on both parts?
So surrendering to Krishna means we must accept everything that He likes, immediately,without waiting for a second and we should reject everything that He doesn’t like, immediately.
So this is called surrender, “ anukulyasya sankalpah  pratikulyasya varjanam”.
The third saranagati, Bhaktivinoda Thakur describes is “raksisyatiti visvaso”, to have full confidence, full faith that Krishna will protect me under all circumstances. This is Krishna’s promise to His devotees.
“Kaunteya pratijanahi na me bhakta pranasyati”.
“Hey Arjuna, boldly declare that my devotees , they never perish. ”
So “ goptrtve varanam tatha”, “That Krishna is my guardian, provider, He will provide me everything.” He is providing to rakshas, He is providing to animals in jungle, definitely He will provide to His devotees.
So to have a strong faith that Krishna, He will provide, that is “goptrtve varanam tatha”.
And last one is “atma-niksepa”. Last but not the least, “atma-niksepa”, means consigning everything that belongs to us.
There is a very good example of Bali Maharaj, he gave everything to Krishna, including himself. He gave the kingdom of the whole universe, not just Earth planet to Vamadev, who is Krishna. In turn what Krishna did, Krishna became so indebted, became so obliged that He became Bali Maharaj ‘s security guard. Such is the attitude of Krishna towards His devotees, who totally surrender to Him.
Even Gopis, Gopis were totally surrendered,
“Manasa deho geho yo kichu mor, apilu tuya pade nanda kishor”
Anything and everything that Gopis had, Gopis consigned that to Krishna.
So Krishna protects, He gives Himself to His devotees. And Krishna says to the Gopis – “I cannot repay the debt to you, you have given me everything.”
Krishna got defeated for eternity, He becomes sold out to Gopis. Krishna remains indebted to Gopis for eternity, He could never repay the debt of the Gopis. Why? Because Gopis did “atma-niksepa”, they consigned everything to Krishna.
Lord Ramchandra told Hanuman that even if I try to repay you for your love and devotion to me, I can never do that.
So this saranagatih, “atma-niksepa – karpanye”.
“Karpanye” means utmost humility. Humility means- “ I am spirit soul and my only duty is to serve Krishna and nothing else.” This is utmost humility.
So to offer that to Krishna is saranagatih.
One of the saranagatih, if not all, is good enough to surrender to Krishna.
This is called surrender and how to surrender to Krishna.

Accidental fall down means that you’re yourself somewhere, out there doing sankirtan or whatever activity you’re doing and you get attracted to drink say, coca cola and somebody offers you and you say, “Okay, I’m all by myself and here is a person and I see Krishna through this person who is bringing me coca cola, so I cannot drink but let me, it’s just a little thing not much so let me drink.” So, it is an accidental fall down. But, not knowingly you can fall down that let me have gross sense gratification, illicit sex, gambling, meat eating, intoxication. Once you may have an accidental fall down but second time we do the same then that  is not accidental, that means Krishna will or Maya will punish you, it will devour you and it will spank you left and right for long time and you will not know where I was and where I’m, you will be finished. So, accidental fall down means sometime we are uncontrolled and we blaspheme some devotee or become so much disturbed, angry and slap some devotee, that’s a big fall down but accidentally one time is accident, second time it is not accident. You see a beautiful, beautiful form of a woman, very attractive lady and then you just turn your face doing some other activity and second time you look at her that is definitely fall down because that will make you attach to the beautiful lady, ‘dhyayato vishayaan pumsaah’. So, accidental fall down means one time not repeated and that one time also it has to be really accidental.

If you become jealous of some devotee, it is a big big fall down not accidental or small, very big. Krishna will never forgive you, that’s a big fall down and for that fall down Krishna will not forgive you because just like you’re a mother and have a  small child and I offend your child by abusing words or slapping him and I say this is accidental fall down mother, please, excuse me, pardon me. Would she pardon me? Impossible, that is ‘Bhaktavatsala Krishna’. Krishna, whom the devotees are most dear, Krishna loves His devotees more than himself and you’re offending a devotee, he will never pardon that so this we cannot say it is accidental, it cannot be counted in accidental fall down, we should be very very careful because that will destroy our devotion to Krishna, it will destroy our relationship to Krishna and devotees. So, we have to be very careful.

सबसे बड़ा दुख क्या है?

हमारी कई-कई उत्क्रांती हुई तब हम कृष्ण भक्त बने, कितना कड़ा दुख झेलकर हम भक्त बने। ऐसा क्यों? क्योंकि वैष्णव खाली कृष्ण की सेवा करते है और गुरु की सेवा करते है, अगर वो गुरु वैष्णव है तो, और उनमें भी कई कई वैष्णव, कई कई प्रकार की उपासना करते है। तो, खाली कृष्ण की सेवा करना गलत है, लड्डू गोपाल की खाली सेवा करना गलत है| चैतन्य महाप्रभु क्या कहते है? आराध्यो भगवान् वृजेश तनया, वृजेश तनया, नन्द महाराज का बेटा। आराध्यो भगवान वृजेश तनया तद धाम वृन्दावनं। खाली कृष्ण नहीं, वृन्दावन के साथ, उनके भक्तों के साथ, राधारानी के साथ। गौडीय वैष्णव में राधा कृष्ण की अकेले की उपासना भी गलत है, अकेले कृष्ण की तो है ही। राधा कृष्ण की उपासना, पूज्य, इज्य, सेवा अकेले राधा कृष्ण की भी गलत है। गौर राधा कृष्ण, गौरांग महाप्रभु के साथ राधाकृष्ण की उपासना करनी चाहिए इसलिए गौडीय वैष्णव श्रेष्ठ है।कई अकेले आचार्यों की पूजा करते है खाली आचार्य या गुरु। परंपरा, आचार्य, प्रभुपाद की हम भी उपासना करते है, हर रोज़ पूजा करते है, श्री गुरु चरण पद्म, संसार दावानल इसलिए गौडीय वैष्णव श्रेष्ठ है।

ऐसा हमें पद मिला, सबसे श्रेष्ठ पदवी मिली तो इस पदवी में हमें हमारा कल्याण कर लेना चाहिए लेकिन वैष्णव अपराध से हम भक्ति में गिर जाते है, पुनः मुशिका भवः। पुनः मुशिका भवः प्रभुपादजी कहते है श्रेष्ठ पदवी पर हम आए, गौडीय वैष्णव सर्वश्रेष्ठ, इतनी ऊँची पदवी। बड़ो कृष्ण भक्त पद, कृष्ण भक्त का पद ओबामा से भी ऊपर कई कई गुणा, इंद्र से भी बड़ो भक्त पद, हम सबका पद सबसे ऊँचा है। सोचो की कहाँ है हम? और यह पद से हम गिर जाते है और रूचि खो देते है और स्थिरता आ जाती है, उत्साह कम हो जाता है। क्यों, ऐसा क्यों, ऐसा क्यों? एक ही कारण है साधुओं का अपराध, भक्तों, वैष्णवों का अपराध। इतने ऊँचे पद पर हम आ गए आखिरी मंजिल पर आ गए और वहाँ से गिरते है, पुनः मुशिका भवः। प्रभुपादजी कहते है एक चूहा था, मुशिका, चूहा साधू के पास जाता है और साधू को कहता है भगवन् मुझे बिल्ली बनादो, मुझे बिल्ली का बहुत डर रहता है, बिल्ली बनादो, तथास्तु। बिल्ली बन गया तो फिर से आया साधू के पास मुझे कुत्ता बनादो, मुझे कुत्ते का डर रहता है, कुत्ता बना दिया फिर से आया मुझे शेर बनोदो तो साधू ने तथास्तु, शेर बना दिया। तो बाद में साधू के साथ बैठता है तो साधू को घूरता है| साधू शेर को बोलता है क्या मुझे खान चाहते हो तो शेर बोलता है, हाँ। तो साधू कहता है पुनः मुशिका भवः फिर से  मुशिक, चूहा बनो, पुनः मुशिका भवः जैसा था वैसा हो जाओ तो हम उतनी ऊँची पदवी पर आए, भक्त, गौडीय वैष्णव भक्त सबसे ऊँची पदवी है, देवी-देवताओं से भी कई कई गुणा ऊँची पदवी। कम पुण्य हमें कृष्ण भक्त नहीं बनाते तो यह पद से गिरने का पुनः मुशिक बनने का कारण कितने है? दो नहीं? कितने कारण है? क्योंकि दूसरा का कोई भी अपराध होगा तो उससे बचने का उपाय है, हरि स्थाने अपराधे, नाम का अपराध, हरी का अपराध करोगे तो हरिनाम बचाएगा। चार अपराध है: सेवा अपराध, नाम अपराध, धाम अपराध, वैष्णव अपराध तो दूसरे सब अपराधों से आप बच जाओगे क्योंकि इलाज है। तुमः स्थाने अपराधे नाही परित्राण, कोई इलाज नहीं है, कोई भी इलाज नहीं इसका, इसलिए तो वैष्णव अपराधों से इतना बचना चाहिए, इतना डरना चाहिए कि हम शेर से न डरे, हम बिना प्रसाद के न डरे, कोठी बिना, सुख-दुखों से डरे नहीं लेकिन यह सबसे बड़ा दुख है।

चैतन्य महाप्रभु ने रामानंद राय को प्रश्न पूछा की सबसे बड़ा दुख क्या है? क्या है सबसे बड़ा दुख? भक्तों का संग छूट जाए, साधू संग छूट जाए इससे बड़ा दुख कोई नहीं| सोचो मरने का दुख इतना बड़ा नहीं है, 84 लाख योनियों में चक्कर काटने का दुख इतना बड़ा नहीं, भूख का इतना बड़ा दुख, पैसों के बिना इतना दुख नहीं है, पत्नी के बिना दुख इतना नहीं है| तो सोचो यह वैष्णव, वैष्णव कृष्णा को कितने प्यारे है, कितनी प्यारे? कोई मूल्य है, कोई कह सकता है कितने प्यारे है? कोई सीमा नहीं है, उसकी सीमा नहीं है इतने प्यारे है|

ना तथा मे प्रियतमा आत्मा योनिर न शंकरो|

न च संकर्षणो न श्रीर नैवात्मा च यथा भवान||

हे उद्धव!, आप जैसे भक्त मुझे जितने प्यारे है उतना मेरा पुत्र ब्रह्मा मुझे इतन प्यारा नहीं है| ब्रह्मा कहाँ से पैदा हुए? भगवान से, ब्रह्मा भी इतना प्यारा नहीं जितना आप जैसे मेरे भक्त मुझे प्यारे है|  न शंकरो , मेरे प्राण शंकर भगवान, महादेव मुझे इतने प्यारे नहीं है| न च संकर्षणो अर्थात बलरामजी, बलराम संकर्षण है| न च संकर्षणो, मेरा भाई बलराम भी मुझे इतना प्यारा नहीं है जितने आप जैसे वैष्णव मुझे प्यारे है| न श्रीर,मेरी पत्नी श्रीलक्ष्मी, भाग्यश्री भी मुझे इतनी प्रिय नहीं है| नैवात्मा, मेरी आत्मा भगवान और भगवान की आत्मा में फर्क नहीं है फिर भी कहते है मेरी आत्मा भी मुझे इतनी प्यारी नहीं आपकी तरह|

वैष्णव कितने प्यारे है कृष्ण खुद को भी जितना प्यार नहीं करते उतना ज्यादा वैष्णवों से प्यार करते है| सोचो आपकी बाजू में जो वैष्णव बैठा है वो वैष्णव कृष्ण को कितना प्यारा है| ऐसा नहीं कि 60 मील दूर से वैष्णव आए तो वो वैष्णव है, वो सिद्ध है, ऐसा नहीं| आपकी बाजू में जो बैठे है वो वैष्णव कृष्ण को अतिशय प्यारे है|

ना तथा मे प्रियतमा आत्मा योनिर न शंकरो|

न च संकर्षणो न श्रीर नैवात्मा च यथा भवान||

भगवान कहते है जो मेरा भक्त है वो मेरा है, हाथी हो या मनुष्य जो मुझे भजते है वो मेरे भक्त है चाहे वो निकृष्ट हो| हम क्या कहते है, वो निकृष्ट भक्त है| नहीं, नहीं बहुत बड़ा अपराध हो जाएगा, भगवान के लिए न शुद्ध भक्त, न निकृष्ट भक्त, न उत्तम भक्त, माध्यम भक्त, भगवान के लिए सब भक्त है| माँ का एक बच्चा है मंद बुद्धि हो, लंगड़ा हो, काणा हो और एक बच्चा राजा हो तो वो  यह नहीं कहेगी हट यह मंद बच्चा है, और राजा को आओ आओ और मंद बच्चे को हट हट, तो भगवान के लिए निकृष्ट भक्त हो या शुद्ध भक्त हो, ऊँच नीच हो काई नव जहाणु मुणे भजे तो म्हारा रे| जो मुझे भजते है वो मेरे है और ऊँच नीच मैं नहीं जानता इसलिए निकृष्ट भक्त का भी आपने अपराध किया तो आपका सत्यानाश, आपकी भक्ति का सत्यानाश| इतनी ऊँची पदवी पर पहुंचकर हम पुनः मुशिक भवः, गिरते है ऐसा गिरते है ऐसा गिरते है, ऐसा गन्दी जगह कोई न हो जहाँ हम गिरते है| भक्तों का अपराध किसी को नहीं छोड़ता| क्यों नहीं छोड़ता? क्योंकि वैष्णव कनिष्ठ हो या उत्तम हो कृष्ण को अतिशय प्रिय है|
