First of all we have to become very very intelligent.
Buddhi means intelligence, intelligence is discrimination, discriminating faculty which discriminates right vs wrong. Drinking liquor or drinking milk, mother’s milk and cow’s milk. So drinking, both are drinking but with intelligence we can discriminate what is good drinking and what is bad drinking, same thing with everything else. Eating meat or eating prasadam, with intelligence we can discriminate what is good to eat and what is bad to eat. We know that the anarthas, they are going to harm us.
Artha means in our interest, it is in our interest, it is for our good, it is for our best.

“Na te viduḥ svārtha-gatiṁ hi viṣṇuṁ.”
(SB 7.5.31)
“I don’t know my swarth, my own interest that my object of love is Vishnu/ Krishna. So I don’t know that artha, my real artha.”

Anartha, an-artha means that which is not in our interest, which is opposite to swarth, param-artha, paramaartha, transcendental. Anartha means those things which are not for our benefit. Why would you invite something which is not for your benefit. Is that intelligence? A thief and your husband, at the door there is a thief so would you invite him in and then there is your husband. Would you invite him in? Yes, this is your swarth and that is your anartha.

So same thing in our consciousness, in our mind, existence, everywhere. Why would we invite something which is not good for us. We have to be intelligent, discriminating, what is right and what is wrong, then second thing is we have to fix that right thing and only practice that right thing, no other thing; this is going to harm us, going to degrade us, going to take us to hellish region, going to give distress, so kick them with your intelligence.

“Teṣāḿ satata-yuktānāḿ
bhajatāḿ prīti-pūrvakam
dadāmi buddhi-yogaḿ taḿ
yena mām upayānti te”
(BG 10.10)
“I give them the intelligence by which they come to me.”
Pray to Krishna, Chant Hare Krishna Mahamantra and Krishna will give us intelligence to discriminate, then we can get rid of our anarthas very easily.
Second thing is we get the causeless mercy of the devotees, if some devotee , they can bless us, we pray to devotees and get their blessings. That’s why just by serving the senior vaishnavas, the pure devotees of the Lord, what happens? Our door to liberation, to spiritual world opens.

“Adau sraddha tatah sadhu-sango
‘tha bhajana-kriya, tato ‘nartha-nivyttih syat tato nistha.”

Those 3 things should be practiced and the ‘nartha-nivryttiih syat. What are those 3?
Sraddha, sraddha means unflinching belief in Krishna’s transcendental words, teachings, that is called faith.
Second thing is sadhu sanga, meaning associating with those kind of saintly devotees who are more advanced than us. Call them up, talk to them every other day, every week, sadhu sanga or hear Srila Prabhupada.
Bhajan Kriya, staunch bhajan kriya and then all these things will kick out all our anarthas.
